Surgical Service,Women's Health,at the Washington DC VA Medical Center seeks a Part-Time (40 hours per pay period), Board Certified Gynecologist proficient in gynecologic office practice and office procedures to care for our Female Veterans.
Provide for the management of chronic pelvic pain, infertility, vaginitis, adnexal masses, endometriosis, prolapse, fibroids, adenomyosis, abnormal uterine bleeding, and post-menopausal bleeding.
Perform office procedures such as: colposcopy, LEEP, hysteroscopy, and transvaginal ultrasound; minimally invasive operating room techniques are required.
Provide direct hands-on patient care. Assesses patients for acute illnesses and determines whether patients need to be admitted to the hospital or managed in the outpatient setting. Manages chronic disease.
Provide clinical guidance over the phone, by Secure Messaging and through the mail. Ensure accurate documentation of medical assessments and observations.
May be responsible for supervising and teaching medical residents and students. May be required to oversee mid-level practitioners, such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
Provide appropriate patient/family member teaching and education; evaluates effectiveness and level of patient/family member understanding of teaching.
Makes referrals to subspecialists when their expertise is needed for diagnosis, treatments or procedures and informs patients of the required referral or consult.
Utilize computer software/program for entering and signing of medical orders such as laboratory studies, radiological studies, etc.
Maintain familiarity and compliance with hospital infection prevention policies and procedures, ensuring the use of antiseptic methods in all procedures.
Work Schedule: Part-Time (40 hours a pay period), Monday and Wednesday, 8:00am-4:30pm and Thursday, 8:00am-12:00.On-call duties include coverage of the emergency room and inpatient consultations.
