The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for quality and productive microscopic examination and evaluation of gynecological and non-gynecological specimens, primarily for the diagnosis of malignant and pre-malignant conditions. This position may assist with fine needle aspiration collection and NGYN and FNA screening. Proficiency testing and continuing education are required for all cytotechnologists. This position is required to keep daily workload records in accordance with CLIA ’88.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Microscopically screens and evaluates conventional, ThinPrep and SurePath gynecologic specimens, maintaining a high level of quality in accordance with the established performance standards for cytotechnologists. 2. Microscopically screens and evaluates all cytologic specimens with a level of productivity in accordance with the established performance standards for cytotechnologists. 3. Participates in proficiency testing in accordance with the established performance standards for cytotechnologists. 4. Obtains a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education annually, including monthly microscope sessions, in accordance with the established performance standards for cytotechnologists. 5. Appropriately refers abnormal cases to pathologists for sign-out using established cytologic criteria. Maintains TIS Full Screen rate in accordance with the established performance standards for cytotechnologists. 6. Maintains department performance indicators of corrective action, EC Absent rate and ASCUS:SIL ratio in accordance with the established performance standards for cytotechnologists.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Completion of approved cytologic training program and registered (or eligible) by the ASCP. A Bachelor’s degree is required for individuals registered by the ASCP after September 1, 1994. Good interpersonal and organizational skills required. This position requires attaining 80% on an internal proficiency test at the time of interview. This position requires passing annually the required CAP-PT (or approved alternative by CLIA). This position requires maintaining 80% proficiency on quarterly GYN CAP mailings as well as 24 continuing education credits each year.
