This position is responsible for: providing appropriate support for the Division of Urology within his/her scope of practice and credentials as set forth by Nemours Children’s Hospital and the state of Florida. This includes but is not limited to: Interviewing patients, obtaining and recording health histories, completing physical and developmental assessments, diagnosing health problems, managing the health care of those patients for which he/she has been educated, providing assistance in the operating room, providing health care teaching and counseling, initiating referrals and maintaining health records and providing consultative services as needed.
Provides care to pediatric patients with acute or chronic illnesses, with a patient/family centered care focus. Elicits comprehensive or focused/interval health history(ies). Participates in daily rounds on patients admitted to the Urology service. Performs consults as needed on patients referred to the Urology service. Performs complete or focused physical examinations. Writes Admission, Discharge, pre-operative and post-operative orders Orders, performs, and/or interprets diagnostic or screening tests. Orders and interprets radiographs and ultrasounds within the PA scope of practice. Develops and revises treatment plans. Initiates, monitors, alters, or orders medications related to conditions or illnesses being treated within applicable divisions. Orders IV fluids and additives First Assists in operating room as needed Refers clients to other health care professionals and agencies as appropriate for specialized services, including but not limited to: other medical subspecialists, physical and occupational therapy, nutritional counseling and management, special education, growth and development/behavioral counseling. Develops or approves in-school management plans for patients as appropriate. Makes dietary, activity/exercise, counseling, education and health promotion recommendations within the PA scope of practice. Initiates any other measure/procedure for which the Physician Assistant has been trained, depending on patient’s condition and judgment of the physician and the Physician Assistant. Takes call as needed in order to maintain the after-hours presence of Urology service both inpatient and outpatient, including referrals from community referring providers Documents the above activities in the Electronic Medical Record. Complies with the HIPAA Regulations. Complies with OSHA/Safety Regulations. Adheres to Nemours Customer Service Standards and Standards of Behavior. All other duties as assigned.
Successful completion of Accredited PA program, National Physician Assistant Certification within 90 days of employment, current Florida Licensure as a Physician Assistant
BLS and PALS required
General surgery and/or Pediatric experience preferred
