Position Summary Full-time 11/12-month position available on or after August 1, 2019 for the Student Health Center. Salary and benefits are paid over 12 months with the July pay period off each year. In the initial year, pay adjustments may be required to allow the incumbent to adjust to the 11/12 Pay Plan.
Job Duties Duties include but are not limited to:
Provide direct primary care to patients including preventative health and wellness care and health promotion.
Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of acute episodic and sub-acute illnesses and injuries including athletic medicine.
Perform routine physical examinations for athletics, travel, employment, annual gynecologic exams or other examinations.
Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of reproductive health needs in both men and women including STD's, contraceptive counseling and pregnancy counseling.
Order and interpret x-rays and laboratory tests and treat appropriately.
Maintain proper medical records and utilize the SOAP (Subjective-Objective-Assessment-Plan) format in charting medical notes/EMR.
Work collaboratively with all Health Center staff members in a team approach.
Ability to perform minor office surgery.
Make referrals to specialty care as indicated.
Advise and counsel students on health education, preventive medical care and health promotion.
Provide counseling in psychosocial issues and make referrals as necessary.
Participate in campus wellness activities.
Assist with various vaccination programs.
Write health related articles for campus newsletters and student newspapers as time permits.
Participate in Health Center committees/meetings.
Act as medical liaison with other community health agencies and services.
Consult with private physicians and public health agencies in securing treatment for students requiring services beyond that available on campus.
Provide professional medical oversight and consultation to other Health Center personnel.
Provide consultative services on health related issues to other campus departments and programs and committees.
Establish and maintain cooperative and sensitive working relationships with a diverse, multicultural student population and university community.
Other duties as needed and assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education:M.D. or D.O. degree from a medical school recognized by the Medical Board of California. Board diplomat in Family Practice, Internal medicine or other appropriate primary care specialty. Completion of annual continuing education required. Experience: Completion of one or more residency programs in a specialty appropriate to assigned duties with increasingly responsible experience in the practice of that specialty. Two years or its -equivalent of increasingly responsible experience in their practice specialty.
Prior or current affiliation with a hospital or outpatient clinic.
Previous experience working in college health.
Women's healthcare and sports medicine experience.
Thorough knowledge of and the ability to effectively apply the principles and methods essential to the assigned medical specialty.
Thorough knowledge in the diagnosis and treatment of common medical disorders and in the assessment and response to emergency situations.
Thorough knowledge of community resources in medical treatment and public health practices.
Thorough knowledge of local, state and national laws and regulations pertaining to the medical field and specialty.
Thorough knowledge of applicable professional ethics and standards.
Ability to serve as a mentor and resource consultant for other health center personnel.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of medical practitioners and specialists, as well as students, administrators and faculty.
Walking, standing, sitting, bending during 8 hour workday.
Occasional lifting or moving patients.
Ability to use and manipulate a variety of medical/surgical office equipment.
Exposure to blood and blood borne pathogens, contagious diseases, illness and bio-hazardous material.
License or Certifications Incumbents must possess and maintain the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in the State of California including the following:
Possess and maintain a valid and relevant State of California license to practice medicine.
Possess and maintain current American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) medical board of certification appropriate for the assigned duties.
Possess and maintain a valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) certificate and number for prescribing controlled substances.
Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (CPR/AED) certification as appropriate for the assigned duties.
Salary Range $11,248 - $19,484 per month plus excellent paid benefits. (Anticipated salary will be $11,248 - $15,182 per month, depending on the qualifications of the successful finalist.)
