The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. Tab will move on to the next part of the site rather than go through menu items.
This position requires the employee to evaluate cytologic material from gynecologic and non-gynecological specimens using independent knowledge and judgement. It also requires participation in the quality control programs of the laboratory, more specifically the federally mandated 10% negative rescreen of all cytotechnologists' work each day. A portion of the role will be screening new material and a portion will be devoted to rescreening 10% of other cytotechs' work.
1: To screen gynecologic specimens and render a diagnosis if the smears are negative for intraepithelial lesion or benign cellular changes associated with inflammation and/or repair. To make a provisional diagnosis on smears considered by the cytotech to be non-diagnostic, atypical, or above and then referring those cases to a pathologist.
2: To screen non gynecologic smears, rendering a provisional diagnosis and the referring all non-gynecologic cases on to a pathologist.
3: Participation in the Quality Control federal and state mandate requirement of 10% rescreen of all cytotechnologist’s work each day.
4: Verification of slides with requisitions by name and accession number, resulting and verifying reports in computer system, returning slides to processing area and requisitions to records area.
5: Participation in continuing education programs in the laboratory – CAP (Interlaboratory Comparison Program), ASCP (Check Path), scope sessions, interlaboratory CME programs.
6: Participation in quality assurance programs within the laboratory – data gathering, monitoring of procedures, statistical evaluations, total quality team participation.
7: Assisting in specimen preparation in both Cytology Processing and Non Gyn area, cytology clerical duties as needed to facilitate the work flow (SEE ATTACHED CYTOLOGY PROCESSING AND NON GYN JOB DESCRIPTIONS.)

Employee must meet at least one of the following:
Graduated from school of cytotechnology accredited by the Comission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or organization approved by Health and Human Services (HHS);
Certified in Cytotechnology by a certification agency approved by HHS;

OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
1: Must have a very good command of all areas of cytology as reflected by the educational requirement – screening evaluation, judgment, processing. (3+ years of cytotechnologist experience preferred).
2: Eyesight and visual dexterity must be such that would enable the cytotech to do microscope work 90% of the time.
3: Must be able to sit while doing the microscopic evaluations for at least one hour intervals, breaking each hour from the microscope and sitting position, then returning to the microscope and sitting position, maintaining this routine throughout the eight hour work day/night.
4: Must have the knowledge and manual dexterity to be able to use a microscope.
5: Must have computer skills enough to be able to inquiry the laboratory programs for patient information.
6: Must have good communication skills, self-motivator and take initiative for extra job duties.
