The Department of Pathology - a collaborative team focused on one goal: delivering the proper scientific diagnosis in the most expert manner. We receive approximately 25,000 major surgical resection specimens and perform about 45 autopsies annually. We have recently completed renovation of our entire Surgical Laboratories - Gross Room, including 15 ThermoFisher senior grossing stations, Histology Lab and IHC Lab.

Cytology is a branch of pathology that focuses on the study and diagnosis of diseases on the cellular level. We are currently seeking a Cyto Prep Lab Technician to join our team. Our cytology laboratory processes and evaluates both gynecological and non-gynecological specimens to detect non-neoplastic, precancerous, and cancerous lesions. On average, the laboratory processes 2,000 gynecological and 33,000 non-gynecologic specimens annually. Additionally, the cytology laboratory prepares 12,000 cell blocks annually.

You Will :

• Prepare and process routine non-gynecologic and gynecologic specimens using established procedures outlined in the Standard Operating Procedure Manual.
• Prepare and process specimens from iFNA procedures on a stat basis.
• Prepare and process cell blocks from residual cytologic material.
• Perform and document quality control activities per department guidelines as scheduled by laboratory supervisor.
• Prepare neat, accurate records; record data on logs and input required data into computer system.
• Perform preventive maintenance activities as scheduled.

You Need :

• NYS Dept of Education Clinical Lab Technician License or NYS Dept of Education Certified Histological Technician License
• Associates Degree - as isequivalent of one year of college biology or chemistry or one year of medical technician school.
• Good laboratory and organizational skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Hours:

• M-F, 9am-5pm
