Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Certified Nurse Midwife. The Certified Nurse Midwife is a member of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department and may function in the triage and inpatient settings. Midwives will ensure the provision and coordination of comprehensive advanced practice nursing processes and pertinent standards of care and uphold Midwifery Core Values. Licensed Midwives provide antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care of normal and complicated pregnancies as well as providing gynecological care of women in the hospital setting. Licensed Midwives functioning as hospitalist will work in collaboration with the Attending Physician Hospitalist on duty. Job Responsibilities: - Educates patient and family to facilitate and support health adjustments to new or changing health patterns.
- Provides consultation and proper hand off about the patient's therapeutic regimen to other members of the health care team.
- Facilitates the continuity of care across the continuum of services, e.g. home care, community referrals, other facilities, appointments with other providers or specialists, etc.
- Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws as outlined in the delineation of privileges.
- Acts as a professional role model to all levels of staff by incorporating expertise and related experience into all aspects of patient care.
- Incorporates patient, family, community, cultural and developmental needs in the plan of care.
- Ensures complete and thorough documentation in the Electronic Medical Record for all services rendered independently bills for those services.
- Performs as OR first assist in surgical procedures, if certified.
- Supports the mission, philosophy, standards, goals and objectives of the institution, department and service line.
- Acts as liaison between patient and payers, advocating for patient's needs and timely provision of care.
- Empowers patients through education to take charge of their own health and well-being by engaging in healthful habits.
- Motivates public in health promotion and disease prevention through participation in community outreach programs, such as mass immunization for preventable disease, when able.
- Plans and organizes care to meet individual patient needs and to ensure appropriate clinical resource utilization per protocols, pathways, and other means.
- Participates in patient, family and community education, as well as resources development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to maintain timely and appropriate communication with patient, family, other disciplines, and ancillary services.
- Demonstrates knowledge of health maintenance and disease prevention measures and incorporates them into the performance of responsibilities.
- Participates in professional organizations and activities that enhance midwifery practice and/or health outcomes of the female patient
- Incorporate best practices to continuously improve quality of care and clinical judgement.

- Translates research and other forms of knowledge to improve practice processes and outcomes.
- Develops new practice approaches based on the integration of research, theory, and practice knowledge.

- Assists in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of research protocols when applicable.
- Monitors and trends the cost effectiveness of care, particularly as it relates to the efficiency and performance indicators established for the patient population.
Additional Position Specific Responsibilities: CNM will be required to do 12hr LD call and clinical ambulatory sessions weekly. Participate in all OBGYN network and CNM weekly/monthly meetings. Participate in Centering Pregnancy. Hours: Mon-Thurs 8a-8p, Fri 8a-5p and Saturday 9a-5p (rotational). Required to work 7 clinic sessions (1-2 session day and 1-3 session day) and 1 (12hr day) on L&D. Location: Sunset Park Women's Health Clinic, Park Slope, Flatbush, 7TH Avenue, Park Ridge and Family Physician (all locations are a requirement to work due to coverage, etc.). However, primary site would be most likely Sunset Park and Park Slope FHC subject to change depending on demand and need after we revisit our volume throughout the network Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Licensure: Current license and registration as a Registered Professional Nurse and a Licensed Midwife in New York State with prescriptive privileges. Education: Doctorate or Masters Degree in Midwifery from an accredited Midwifery Program. Credentialed through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges. National certification with the American Midwifery Board Certification (AMCB) is required. DEA certificate. Previous experience as a Licensed Midwife is preferred. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, creative problem solving and excellent critical thinking and leadership; Previously demonstrated ability to facilitate group processes and work cohesively and collaboratively as member of the interdisciplinary team; Effective change agent; Membership in related professional specialty organizations desirable; Electronic Fetal Monitoring Credentialing as applicable NRP certification as applicable Basic Life Support certification; ACLS; Department Drills/Skills participation; Infection Control Certification every 4 years.
Must have at least 1 year of full-scope midwifery experience.
Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS, Midwifery Certification-NYS Preferred Qualifications: Membership in pertinent professional organizations preferred. Spanish speaking fluency is highly preferred. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
