Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
The Director, Division of Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) a Certified Nurse Midwife, has continuous responsibility and accountability for the management of the DHMC Nurse Midwifery Service and directs the CNMs in providing health care to patients within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. As a member of the department leadership group, the Director reports to the Chair, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, in an integrated practice environment and provides leadership to CNMs in research, educational, consultative, and legislative arenas in accordance with the vision and mission of the division, department, and organization.
Provide overall strategic guidance of the midwifery team, working closely with physician and nursing leadership in advancing a culture of excellence in an integrated midwifery service, to include various disciplines.
Lead the group in collaborative practice with attending physicians, residents, APP’s, nurses and support staff.
Work directly with other Division Directors in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Birthing Pavilion leadership.
Develop and maintain mechanisms for group negotiation and conflict resolution.
Assume responsibility for strategic planning, clinical services, professional performance, business performance, regulatory compliance, education and departmental culture.
Supervise the clinical and professional activity of the CNMs. Serve as a role model.
Articulate and support performance expectations, which provide for the highest quality patient care and consistency in clinical care standards, driven by safety requirements and clinical outcomes monitoring.
Assure that clinical practice of CNMs meet current standards.
Develop and support clinical, research, and educational activities.
Participate in departmental QA/QI systems and other evaluative and clinical improvement activities.
Identify, respond to, and investigate potential and actual risk management issues.
Collect, maintain, and report operating and statistical data to assure the efficient use of the division’s resources.
Mentor individuals in the achievement of goals in accordance with the mission and initiatives of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and DHMC
Work with the ObGyn Administrative Director and Practice Manager in planning and reviewing the budget related to CNMs. Review billing practices, salaries, and the operating expenses and productivity.
Assume accountability for staffing justification, performance appraisals, hiring, and terminations.
Facilitate new CNM orientation, on-boarding and on-gong staff development.
Monitor and modify staffing patterns to ensure adequate clinical coverage.
Provide appropriate representation of CNMs throughout the department, DHMC, and DH system.
Assure that licensing, certification, credentialing, and privileges are maintained and current for CNMs.
Facilitate positive relationships within the DH system as well as with affiliate members.
Perform functions of the CNM role as outlined in the job description with the exception of having a lighter clinical load to provide protected administrative time to perform expected functions as the Division Director.

Master's degree with a minimum of 10 years of clinical experience, 6 of which need to be in a nurse midwife role with some experience with high risk obstetric patients and triage.
Demonstrated management and leadership experience with a reputation for building clinical excellence directing high quality clinical activities.
A strong understanding of healthcare delivery within academic/teaching hospital environments.
Active involvement and leadership in professional organizations and/or ACNM state affiliate is strongly preferred.
Strategic problem solver who can create effective solutions for change while also inspiring and aligning providers, both within Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as those with whom the department interacts.
A strong communicator and diplomat who is able to inspire and effectively communicate with wide and diverse audiences at all levels of the organization and externally. A mentor and developer of people who motivates others to be team players.

Certified Nurse Midwife, currently licensed in the state of NH or eligible for such licensure
