Description

Physician in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) is seeking to expand its Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS) Division with the recruitment of a fellowship-trained, board certified FPMRS OBGYN physician with outstanding clinical and leadership experience and skills who will work independently at our affiliate site, Eisenhower Medical Center, in Rancho Mirage California.  The candidate will be an affiliate member of the UPRS division and involved in educational and research missions.  The current division members include nationally recognized leaders of the subspecialty dedicated to training the next generation of leaders in URPS. 

This position is 100% effort at Eisenhower Medical Center. Candidates should have a commitment to excellence in clinical care, patient safety, patient satisfaction, education, and participate actively in these missions of the division. Candidates must have a MD or MD/PhD, be board certified in general Obstetrics & Gynecology and board certified in URPS, and must have or obtain an active license to practice medicine in California.

Job Description:

  1. Lead a Urogynecology practice at EMC providing direct patient care within URPS, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for patients with pelvic floor disorders.
  2. Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to address patient’s assessed medical conditions.
  3. Orders laboratory, radiologic, and other diagnostic services for further diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of patients as appropriate.
  4. Refers patients to other specialists for further diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment as appropriate.
  5. Conservatively and surgically manage pelvic floor conditions across the full spectrum of Urogynecologic conditions.
  6. Communicates details of patient status and treatment with referring physicians, including primary care physicians, and other physicians involved in the patient’s care.
  7. Communicates with patients and authorized care givers regarding patient health status, treatment plan, prognosis, etc.
  8. Trains and supervises medical students, residents, and/or fellows assigned to the Urogynecology service. Provides periodic lectures to medical students and residents within physician’s specialty.
  9. Directs the patient care activities of assigned nursing and support staff as necessary to efficiently manage physician’s patients.
  10. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
  11. Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
  12. Record complete and timely medical records using the provided electronic records systems.
  13. Participates in health promotion, education and/or prevention programs.
  14. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate for this position is someone with:

  • At least 4 years post fellowship experience
  • Demonstrated ability and skills to develop own practice at Eisenhower Medical Center
  • Desire to explore innovative & new methods of care in URPS, and training of the next generation of URPS specialists
  • Goals to contribute to the education of medical students, OBGYN and urology residents, and FPMRS fellows
